A young flyer named Swift arrives for his first day at Top Wing Academy on Big Swirl Island and meets teammates Rod, Penny and Brody along with teacher Speedy and mechanic Bea. The cadets each receive a rescue vehicle and train in a virtual reality simulator, where they fail because they do not work together. When two chicks accidentally launch a splash wing toward a waterfall, the team makes a real plan, assigns roles and rescues them. Swift and the cadets earn their first Team Top Wing badges.

Lemon Pirates

On Peace World Island, the Top Wing cadets train and help run Rhonda's lemon shack until crocodile pirates Dilly and Matilda steal the lemons and sabotage Brody's boat. When the boat starts sinking, the team answers a rescue alarm, tows Brody to safety and chases the pirates across the water. Rod boards the pirate ship and steers it clear of the rocks, recovering the lemons. In the end Rhonda even shares frozen lemon swirlies with the pirates after they ask politely.

To help her try again, the other cadets build a treasure hunt with a map and a hidden chest. When turtle pirates capture some of the cadets and take the treasure, Penny follows the map's clues to Hidden Cove and helps free her friends with a team rescue, finally earning her badge.

When a hungry baby bear cub eats all of Rhonda's honey cakes and falls asleep at her Lemon Shack, Team Top Wing sets out to return her to Big Bear Cave before her parents wake. Cadet Rod, who dreads spooky places, volunteers and follows the cub into the cave next door, where she has climbed onto an old mine railway. Rod pushes through his fear, boards the runaway cart and brakes it, then outruns a cave-in and a boulder with a mid-air catch from Swift. The cub is carried safely home to sleep, and the cadets relax with honey cakes at sunset.

Race Through Danger Canyon

Swift, a young rooster cadet, is training to earn his Safe Eject Badge when a showoff bat pilot named Batty arrives and dares the cadets to race through the off-limits Danger Canyon. Batty flies too fast, his jet breaks apart, and he is left falling and calling for help. Swift performs the eject move for real, catches Batty in mid-air, and uses his watch to recover the runaway jet. Back at base, the mentors award Swift his badge and Batty promises to stay out of no-fly zones.

Penny, a young bird cadet with Team Top Wing, finds a polar bear cub named Anu stranded on a shrinking piece of ice after a heat wave broke up her home. Penny brings her to headquarters while the other cadets, Swift and Brody, search the ocean and use an infrared camera to locate Anu's dad and brother. The team fills a barge with snow to keep the melting ice house cold and tows the whole family safely back to Polar Bear Island. The episode ends with a happy reunion and the cadets sliding on the ice.

She has a beaver friend build her a large flying machine and takes it up to Big Cliff on an extremely windy day, ignoring warnings. When the wind spins her out of control high above the water, the Top Wing cadets fly out and Brody catches her just in time. Back safe, Shirley accepts her gliding and everyone celebrates earning their wings.
