Boating
Boating brings children onto the water: boats that float, harbours, waves, and the people who work and play on them. For young children it is a world of movement and rules they can grasp, things that stay afloat, ropes that tie, someone steering with a plan. A calm, well-made series about boats gives them time to watch how it all fits together, and often carries a quiet lesson about looking out for each other.
For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds start following simple sequences: the boat leaves, something happens, everyone comes back safely. This is the age where boats become jobs, sailing out, pulling something in, helping someone who is stuck. Look for a series that shows the steps in order and keeps the water friendly rather than threatening, so your child ends the story reassured instead of worried.

For 4-year-olds
By four, children want to know why. Why does a boat float, why does the captain check the weather, why do you wear a life jacket. Boating stories now hold small problems that get solved with thinking, not luck. Look for a series where characters make a plan out loud and where mistakes on the water are fixed calmly, which is exactly how you want your child to think about real water safety.

Guided by the map's crescendos, beats and buoys, they travel across the Pacific Ocean and underwater in Rocket, racing the rival Big Jet who wants the treasure first. The children invite the viewer to pat, count and whistle along at each step. They reach the X, dig up a nautical whistle, drive Big Jet away, and close with a Curtain Call reviewing the art and music.
For 5-year-olds
Five-year-olds can hold a longer voyage in their heads, with a destination, a setback, and a crew that has to work together. Boats become a place where roles matter: someone steers, someone watches, someone speaks up. Look for a series that lets the characters disagree and repair it, and that keeps any danger at sea proportionate, tense enough to matter, resolved without a fright that lingers at bedtime.

The horses are returned to Farmer Ana Maria, and now there are enough for all the children waiting to ride.
For 6-year-olds
At six, the water is a place to explore and claim. Children this age invent their own rules, build rafts in their heads, and care deeply about fairness within a group. Boating stories can carry real stakes now: a plan that fails, a friendship tested on the way. Look for a series that trusts children to sort it out themselves, with adults nearby rather than in charge, and that leaves room for your child to imagine their own trip.
