Feeling

Fear

Fear is one of the first big feelings a child learns to name. Dark rooms, loud noises, new places, a dog that barks too close: young children meet fear long before they have words for it. A calm, well-made series can give them a safe distance to look at it, watch someone else feel scared and come out fine, and borrow the words for next time.

For 2-year-olds

At two, fear is fast and physical. A sudden sound, a vacuum cleaner, a stranger's face, and the body reacts before any thought arrives. Toddlers cannot yet talk themselves down, so they need a grown-up nearby and a return to calm. Look for content where the scare is small and brief, where an adult or older friend responds warmly, and where the scene settles back into something familiar before it moves on.

Flop adapts a pair of oven mitts into 'ear gloves' so Bing can step back to the window and enjoy the rest of the fireworks safely, and Bing recaps the lesson to the viewer at the end.

Three-year-olds start putting fear into words, and imagination gives it new shapes: shadows on the wall, the noise under the bed, a monster that was not there yesterday.
