First day at school

A first day at school is one of the earliest big transitions a young child faces: a new building, unfamiliar grown-ups, and a goodbye at the door. Stories about it let children rehearse the whole thing from the safety of the couch, long before the real morning arrives. A calm, well-made episode gives them the words for what they feel and shows that the parent always comes back.

For 3-year-olds

At three, the school part matters less than the separation. What a child this age is really working out is that saying goodbye is not losing someone, and that a day has a shape with a reliable ending. Look for stories that stay close to the feeling itself, name it simply, and let the reunion happen on screen. Repeated songs or phrases help here, because a three-year-old borrows those words later at the actual door.
