Babysitting

Babysitting is one of the first times a child is cared for by someone who is not a parent. It touches on trust, separation, and learning that a familiar adult always comes back. A calm, well-made series about it lets a child rehearse that goodbye from a safe distance, and often gives them the words for feelings they cannot yet name.

For 3-year-olds

At three, saying goodbye at the door can still feel enormous, and the sitter is mostly a stranger with unfamiliar rules. Look for a story that stays close to the child's own feelings, shows the wobble honestly, and lets a caring adult help them through it with simple tools like naming the feeling or counting down to the return. It helps when the pace is unhurried and the reunion is clear, so your child sees the ending before the worry takes over. Watching together and pausing to talk gives them room to connect it to their own sitter.
