Behaviour

Caution

Caution is how young children learn to pause before they act: near hot pans, busy streets, deep water or an animal they do not know. At three and four they are curious and quick, and their bodies often move before their thinking catches up. A calm, well made series can show what careful looks like in ordinary moments, so the lesson arrives without fear attached.

For 4-year-olds

By four, children can hold a rule in mind, predict what might go wrong, and want to know why. Caution becomes something they can think through instead of only obey. Look for stories where characters name the risk out loud, prepare before they act, and take sensible steps like waiting, asking, or putting on the right gear. A little tension is fine at this age as long as it resolves clearly and the reason behind the care is explained rather than assumed.

A Pic Nic

Three kitten siblings, Cookie, Pudding, and Candy, drive into the woods with their parents for a family picnic. When they realise the basket of food was left behind, they brainstorm wild ideas (a rocket trip home, a pizza delivery) before settling on practical alternatives: fishing in the pond, gathering wood, and foraging mushrooms with the help of Pudding's fungus guide. After making fire by rubbing sticks together, the family eats cooked mushrooms and the berries Mommy secretly picked, ending the day around a forest fire together.

Toto and a narrator visit Moo on her farm, where she is trying to bake a surprise apple pie for Hoopa's birthday. The viewer is invited to help her pick the right tool to reach the apples, identify which chicken laid the missing egg, find the mixer behind some cans, and recall the recipe steps when the page smudges. Once the pie is baked, the group hides, sings 'Happy Birthday' for Hoopa, and helps blow out the candles. The episode ends with Hoopa enjoying his surprise pie.

Professor Inkling shares an unsolved mystery from his great-grandfather's travel book with the Octonauts crew, who set off in the Gup-B to investigate. A school of flying fish accidentally snatches the book, and one of them is left behind with an injured tail fin. The team brings him back to the Octopod, Peso treats him, and Tweak uses what he teaches them about pectoral fins and tail fins to modify the Gup-B so it can leap and glide. The crew finds the school again, recovers the book, and Professor Inkling adds the ending to his great-grandfather's story.
