Honesty

Honesty is one of the first moral ideas a young child works out, and it rarely starts with big lies. It starts with a broken cup nobody admits to, a story that grows in the telling, or the wobbly feeling of owning up. A calm series can walk a child through that discomfort at a safe distance, showing what happens when the truth comes out and that a relationship survives it.

For 5-year-olds

By five, a child understands that a lie is a choice, and starts noticing the tangle that follows one. Loyalty enters the picture too: covering for a friend, or keeping a secret that feels too heavy. Stories with real social stakes work well now, where a character feels the discomfort of a cover-up and has to decide what to say. Look for episodes that let the mistake breathe before it is resolved, and that show repair as something you do, not just something you say.
