Standing up for others

Standing up for others is one of the first moral instincts children show, and it starts small: noticing that someone is left out, upset, or being treated unfairly, and doing something about it. For young children this is hard, because it means holding onto their own feelings while acting for someone else. A calm, well-made story gives them a safe place to see that moment play out, with enough time to understand what happened and why it mattered.
