Loyalty

Loyalty is what happens when a friendship is tested and a child decides to stay. For young children it starts small: saving a seat, waiting for someone who is slower, standing next to a friend who is having a hard day. Stories that show these moments unhurried give children a picture of what sticking by someone actually looks like.

For 5-year-olds

Five-year-olds start forming real preferences about who their friends are, and that brings the first hard choices: whose side to take, what to do when two friends want different things. This is the age where promises begin to mean something and where being left out stings. Stories that let a disagreement play out honestly, then show characters finding their way back to each other, give a child language for repair. Watch for friendships that bend without breaking.

Binky, a member of the Tough Customers, is mortified when his classmate George spots him holding his mom's hand at the mall. Afraid of being called a baby, he tries to keep it secret by silencing and bribing George, while Molly and Rattles dig for clues. After a clarinet recital, Binky decides he loves his mom and will hold her hand no matter what, and his friends shrug it off as nothing unusual. He happily chooses a family dinner over a night out with his friends.
