Teasing

Teasing sits right on the line between play and hurt, and young children are still learning where that line is. A joke that makes one child laugh can make another go quiet, and both of those reactions show up early in group play. A calm series about teasing gives your child a chance to watch that moment from the outside, see how it feels for the one being teased, and hear the words that make it stop.

For 3-year-olds

At three, teasing is mostly copying: a silly name, a snatched toy, a laugh that keeps going after the other child stops smiling. The intent is usually not unkind, but the effect already lands. Look for a series that keeps the moment small and short, shows the upset face clearly, and lets a grown-up or friend say plainly that it hurt. Simple repair, a sorry and playing on together, matters more at this age than any explanation.

Daddy Pig cannot find his glasses and grows grumpy because everything looks fuzzy without them. Peppa and George search the family home, checking under the newspaper, on the television, in the bedroom and in the bathroom, but come up empty. In the end Daddy Pig discovers he was sitting on the glasses the whole time. The family laughs it off and his good mood returns.

In the family garden, George plays with his ball and Peppa teases him about how to catch, so Mummy Pig teaches everyone the game Piggy in the Middle. As they play, Peppa keeps taunting George until he is upset, and Mummy tells her it is not fair to tease him. Daddy Pig joins in, Peppa apologises, and Mummy gives both children a helping hand so they can catch the ball. The episode ends with all four pigs happily playing catch together.

Eureka, a young inventor, and her dad collect spiky, foul-smelling stink pods on Stink Pod Day, the same pods everyone else throws away. Eureka refuses to discard them and sets out to find a use, brainstorming ideas and building a raft that dissolves into goop in the river. After a night camping in the backyard, they toss a pod into the campfire and discover it turns into a sweet treat. The episode ends with the family selling the new 'yum pods' at the town market.

Felipe's New Job

Manny and his talking tools spend the day on repairs, but Felipe the screwdriver feels there is nothing for him to do and wonders if he should find another job. After a comforting talk with Kelly at the hardware store, the crew heads to Mr. Laffler's toy factory at night to fix a broken lock. When the tools accidentally start a toy machine, Felipe turns out to be the only one who can turn the screws to shut it off. He saves the day, is thanked, and the tools celebrate with a delivery of balls.

For 4-year-olds

Four-year-olds start teasing on purpose, testing what a word does to someone's face. They also begin to notice fairness and can say when something is not funny anymore. A good series at this stage shows both sides, the one teasing and the one being teased, and lets the story sit in the awkward middle for a moment. Look for characters who use their own words to set a limit, and adults who help name feelings instead of just handing out a rule.

Sister Bear is nervous about starting third grade after Too Tall's gang teases her that it is impossibly hard. At home, Brother, Mama and Papa reassure her, and Mama uses a photo album to recall how Sister once dreaded kindergarten yet quickly came to love it. Encouraged, Sister tries third grade and comes home pleased, while Papa faces his own fear and bakes his first apple pie. The episode ends with the family together and the lesson that new things are worth trying.

In a suburban Australian home, dog sisters Bluey and Bingo start the morning fighting over a toothbrush, and Dad tells them to stop teasing. The girls counter that Dad teases them constantly, recalling his password guard game, renaming them, pretending to be Mum, and joking about selling them to the monkey house. Dad argues back that the kids tease him too, and the family trades memories of their games. When one of Dad's jokes goes too far, he apologizes and the two sides land on the difference between playing and teasing.

The Story of Joey the Kangaroo

Lucy is sent to bed but slips out to visit her animal neighbours, where Ribbit the Frog notices she is upset about being the worst at skipping in her class. To cheer her up, Ribbit tells the story of Joey, a young kangaroo in Australia who cannot jump and is teased by the other joeys. Ribbit lends Joey a pair of jumping boots so he can practise, and after training all night Joey enters the Junior Jump contest. When the boots are banned he finds he can jump without them, wins the contest, and the story sends Lucy happily off to bed.

For 6-year-olds

Six-year-olds understand that teasing can be a way of holding power in a group, and they can tell the difference between joking between friends and something meant to sting. They also feel embarrassment sharply. Look for a series that allows a real misstep, a character who teases too far and has to face it, without turning them into a bad person. Stories with slower repair, where trust takes time to come back, fit this age better than an instant fix.

Red Fraggle wants to show her friend Gobo a slide stunt, but everyone would rather hear Mokey's poems. Feeling overlooked, Red decides to become Mokey, copying her hair, her voice and her habit of gathering radishes and writing verse, until Boober mistakes the changes for a disease. Disguised as a bush, Red accidentally helps free her friends when a young Gorg traps them, and she decides she would rather be herself, master of the slide. In the human workshop, Doc prepares a costume for a party while his dog Sprocket ends up dressed as Doc.
