Apologising

Saying sorry is one of the first repair tools a child learns. Long before the word means anything, children watch how the people around them handle a knocked-over tower or a hurt friend. Stories that slow down after something goes wrong give children a picture of what repair looks like, and a script they can borrow.

For 2-year-olds

At two, sorry is mostly a sound copied from a grown-up, not an admission. A toddler can see that a friend is crying but cannot yet trace it back to their own hand. What helps at this age is watching a calm adult name what happened in a few plain words and then help fix it, with a hug or a rebuilt tower. Look for short stories where nobody is scolded and the upset passes quickly.
