Table manners

Table manners are the small rituals that turn eating into something shared: sitting down together, asking instead of grabbing, waiting until everyone has a plate. For young children this is less about rules and more about learning that meals belong to everyone at the table. A calm series that shows characters eating, serving and talking together gives children a picture of how it looks, without a grown-up having to correct them in the moment.

For 4-year-olds

By four, a child can hold the idea that manners are about other people, not just about doing it right. This is the age for the reasons behind the ritual: why we wait, why we ask before taking the last piece, why the person who cooked gets a thank you. Series that show meals in different homes or cultures are useful now, because a four-year-old can notice that customs differ and still make sense. Also worth watching for: characters who talk with each other at the table, so a meal reads as conversation rather than a list of instructions.
