Reconciliation
Reconciliation is what happens after the argument: the moment a child figures out how to come back to someone they upset, or let someone come back to them. For young children this is hard work, because it asks them to hold their own feelings and someone else's at the same time. A calm, well made story lets them watch that repair happen from a safe distance, and gives them words and gestures they can borrow later.
For 2-year-olds
At two, conflict is mostly about a wanted object and a big feeling that arrives fast. Toddlers do not yet understand apologies, but they do read faces, voices and body language, so a hug that follows a upset moment lands clearly. Look for stories where the tension is short and the comfort comes quickly, with plenty of time on the friendly ending. Long stretches of distress or shouting are more than a two year old can hold.

They chant rhymes, retry when wishes go wrong, and briefly blame each other when the dandelions run out. Granny gathers them and shares that a wish can be made on anything, and that they can help wishes along through their own actions. The episode closes with the children wishing to make each other laugh and a short music-and-dance segment.
For 3-year-olds
Three year olds are starting to notice that what they do lands on someone else, though they still need help naming it. The word sorry often gets copied without much meaning behind it, so it helps when a story shows repair as something you do: handing the toy back, sitting closer, helping fix what broke. Look for characters who say plainly how they feel and get a clear response. Simple, visible cause and effect matters more than a clever plot at this age.

For 4-year-olds
Friendship becomes real at four, and so does the sting of losing one for an afternoon. Children this age can hold two sides of a story and are keen on what is fair, which makes them ready for conflicts that take a few scenes to solve. Look for stories where both characters get to say their piece, where an adult may help but does not hand over the solution, and where the apology is followed by different behaviour. Seeing someone try again is the lesson.

For 5-year-olds
Five year olds can tell an accident from something done on purpose, and that changes what forgiveness asks of them. They also know that hurt feelings do not switch off the moment someone apologises. Stories that let a character stay a bit annoyed, then find their own way back, feel truer than instant fixes. Look for characters who are clearly in the wrong without being cast as bad, and for repair that costs a little effort. This is a good age for a story where both sides carry some blame.

For 6-year-olds
By six, the sharp edges are social: being left out, taking sides, deciding whose rules the game follows. Children can now look back at their own part in a fight, which is exactly the skill worth feeding. Look for stories with room for a real disagreement, where friends work things out between themselves rather than waiting for a grown up to rule on it. It is fine if a story leaves a small thread hanging, as long as it is honest about the effort repair takes.
