Daniel Visits School

Cake Bake

On the morning of Duck's birthday, Sarah decides to bake him a cake. After Duck picks an unusual 'bread cake' from the recipe book, Sarah gathers ingredients and starts mixing, only for batter to ruin the open recipe. The cake itself speaks up and dictates the remaining steps while a parcel arrives from Sarah's grandmother containing roller skates for Duck. Once baked, Sarah, Duck and the talking cake head to the park, where everyone sings a birthday song together.

Lots of Shallots

Sarah and Duck find tiny seeds tucked inside their newspaper and decide to plant them in pots in the living room. They water the soil, get muddy, clean up and then wait through dinner and bedtime for something to happen. The next morning small sprouts appear, and Sarah looks them up in her vegetable book before a character called the Plate Girl arrives to confirm they are shallots, the baby onions that stay small. The episode ends with Duck giving the little shallots gentle 'lessons' in the garden.

ABCs with Blue

Josh, a live-action host, and his animated puppy Blue play a game of Blue's Clues to figure out which book Blue wants to read. Across warmly colored rooms they hunt for three clues, a moon, a cow and the word jump, writing each in the handy dandy notebook and helping a neighbor with groceries along the way. Josh spells words aloud, reads picture sentences with the viewer and fixes jumbled ones like 'The ball threw a girl.' In the thinking chair he combines the clues to name the book as 'Hey Diddle Diddle', then closes with a goodbye song.

The Thumbsucker

Jessica, a young girl living with her family, realises she sucks her thumb without noticing and decides to stop so she can do 'big kid things'. Over one afternoon at home she tries a string of plans, a mitten, sour and yucky flavours, even wrapping herself up, and fails each time before asking her dad and uncle for help. Her uncle suggests keeping her hands busy, and she starts coloring to redirect the urge. By the next TV night she gets through a whole show without sucking her thumb and her brother tells her he is proud of her.

Max's Bedtime

It is bedtime for Max, a young rabbit, and his older sister Ruby helps him get ready for sleep at home. Max keeps climbing out of bed and wandering into Ruby's room to play instead of settling down. Ruby patiently brings him comfort toys, reads to him and tucks him back in again and again. The night ends with Max finally settled in his own bed.

Comic Tragedy

When the loose pages blow away, his sister Phoebe and a friend gather them up and use the page numbers to work out which pages are missing and what order they belong in. They keep searching until every page is found and read the finished story together. The episode ends with Jay's completed comic and a plan for the siblings to make a new one together.

Up All Night

Little Bear wants to stay awake all night so he can see the sunrise his father, a fisherman, watches from his ship at sea. Through the evening he keeps calling for Mother Bear, who patiently brings water, cools him down and reassures him, and he meets a friendly Cat who likes the dark. In the end Mother Bear agrees to wait with him for the sunrise, but he falls asleep first. He wakes to morning sure that he saw the sunrise and his father waving, and Father Bear comes home.

Trick Shot

Phoebe and Jay spend the day at the basketball court where their dad, Pete, and Cousin Craig face off in a trick-shot game called Topsy Shotsy. Phoebe coaches Craig and Jay coaches Dad, while Grandma referees and teaches the children to keep score by counting up points on the scoreboard. After a long losing streak, Dad finally wins with Jay's invented 'Topsy surprise' shot. Everyone celebrates and the two players congratulate each other with a 'Good game.'

Little Bear's Bath

Little Bear gets ready for a bath while he and Mother Bear wait for Father Bear to return from a long fishing trip. While bathing, Little Bear imagines his tub becoming a wide sea, where he meets a mermaid tangled in a fishing net and helps her get free as they look for Father. The episode ends with Little Bear asking to hear his favorite part of the letter one more time.

Square's Very Kind Gesture

Each time he tries, Circle passes the spare banana on to Triangle, and Square ends up with neither the fruit nor the praise he hoped for. He waits for the tree to grow again, rehearses his plan, and keeps trying. By the end he finally eats one banana at a picnic, still weighing whether to share the other.

Home with Herb
