A long bedtime story set in the Night Garden, a dreamlike outdoor world of puppet creatures. Makka Pakka travels from friend to friend (Igglepiggle, Upsy Daisy, the Tombliboos and the ten tiny Pontipines), washing each one's face with his sponge, soap and water. Between visits, the camera follows characters strolling slowly through grass and flowers while a soft narrator describes what is happening. The episode ends with everyone, including a briefly forgotten Igglepiggle, being tucked into bed as the narrator wishes them all goodnight.

When it is time for the baby's nap, he refuses to settle, so Donkey Hodie and her friends Purple Panda and Duck Duck each try the tricks that helped them sleep as little ones: quiet peekaboo, a slow nap dance and a nap book. Nothing works until they decide to think about what the baby himself needs, soothing him with rocking, a gentle breeze and a yodel lullaby. The baby finally falls asleep, and the tired friends admit they feel like napping too.

In 'Carl's Cast,' Carl is frustrated by a broken wrist until Sheldon offers to be his other hand, and after their plans go sideways they patch up their friendship and Carl finds his own ways to manage one-handed. Both stories end with the friends together and Carl feeling more like himself.

When the recipe book gets stuck in wet concrete and the recipes seem lost, Tank realises he has memorised every one and tells the chef the ingredients so the meals can be made. The restaurant opens and Tank is finally served his barkberry biscuits, but he is too sleepy to eat them.

After trying to build quietly and then to relocate the house, leader Phinny builds a pillow fort around Chilla's home to block the sound. The new house is finished in time, Chilla wakes rested, and he invites the pups to perform in his show.

In 'Special Delivery' Chuck promises to haul heavy steel beams to the diner alone, fails repeatedly, and finally builds a wheeled platform with Boomer and Rowdy to deliver the load on time. Each story ends with a parent gently spelling out the lesson and Chuck happily returning to play with his friends.

The episode opens with a pretend kart race and a monster game and closes with the family's play song.
