Eating

Eating fills more of a young child's day than almost anything else: the high chair, the snack, the standoff over one green thing on the plate. It is where a child practises curiosity, self-control and being part of a family, long before anyone calls it a table manner. A calm, well-made story about food gives your child words and pictures for all of that, and lets them meet a new flavour or a tricky mealtime from a safe distance.

For 2-year-olds

At two, eating is mostly a body experience. Your toddler is learning to hold a spoon, to decide what goes in and what gets pushed away, and to trust that food arrives at roughly the same moments every day. Suspicion of new tastes is normal at this age, not a problem to fix. Look for stories with a slow, predictable mealtime rhythm, simple named foods, and adults who stay calm when a small person says no. Repetition helps: the same table, the same cup, the same little ritual each time.

This is the age where a story about a shared meal can carry generosity without stating the moral out loud.
