Young Jedi Kai, Nubs and Lys visit Dottie's droid workshop to learn how to care for droids, and a repair lesson is interrupted when two spider droids steal a rare voice part. Following footprints, the children track the thieves to a strange starship owned by Wreck, a droid builder who takes parts that are not his. They befriend Wreck's droids Dozer and Gigi, battle their way to the stolen vocabulator and free the captive droid Beepers. Back at the workshop, Dottie installs the part, fixes Beepers too, and offers the three droids a home.

A recurring thief named Taborr races them for it and manages to grab the compass, but a giant Colo clawfish soon traps him. The Jedi choose to rescue Taborr and let the compass go rather than risk anyone's safety. In the end Klert reveals she quietly retrieved the compass, and everyone escapes the lake together.

The friends free the speeder, make a careful jump across a ravine, and return Zippy to his family.
