Helping others

Helping others starts with small, everyday moments: handing over a missing sock, holding a door, noticing that a friend looks sad. For young children this is real work, because it asks them to look outward at a moment when their own wants feel loudest. A calm, well-made series can show helping as something ordinary and satisfying rather than a lesson to be learned, and give children the words and pictures they need to try it themselves.

For 2-year-olds

At two, helping is mostly imitation. Your child carries the cloth, pats a crying friend, or drops a toy in the basket because someone else is doing it. Look for stories with slow, clear pictures where a single helping action fills the screen long enough to be understood, and where a grown-up or friend simply says thank you. Big feelings about sharing are normal here, and a series that shows a character struggling and then choosing to help lands better than one where helping is instant.

Children this age can hold a plan across a whole story and understand that some problems need more than one person. Look for series where characters organise, disagree about the best approach, and stick with something difficult. Helping that includes standing up for someone, or admitting a mistake and making it right, gives your child more to chew on than simple kindness alone.
