Mentorship
Mentorship is what happens when someone who knows a little more stays alongside a child who is learning: showing, waiting, and letting them try. Young children pick up most of their skills this way, by watching a trusted person and copying what they see. A calm, well-made series about it gives your child a model of what patient help looks like, and of how it feels to be the one being taught.
For 2-year-olds
At two, learning happens almost entirely through copying. Your toddler watches a steady, familiar figure do something small, then tries it in their own way. What matters most at this age is warmth and repetition: the same helper, the same gentle voice, the same simple task returning again and again. Look for a series where the older character stays close and unhurried, and where nobody rushes the child through a moment.

When Coco arrives wanting the same blocks for a rainbow and baby Charlie grabs the red block, the friends bump into each other's plans, and the tower ends up knocked down. With Flop's guidance, they combine their ideas into one rainbow tower that reaches Bing's height. The episode closes with Bing recounting what happened and what he felt to a friendly storyteller rabbit.
For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds start to notice that other people know things they do not, and they begin to ask. This is the age of 'show me' and 'how does that work'. A good series here has a guide who answers in short, plain steps and then hands the task back to the child. Watch for moments where the helper waits instead of taking over, and where a wrong first try is met calmly.

For 4-year-olds
By four, the pull is toward doing it alone. Your child wants the help but resents being taken over, so the best guiding at this age is quiet: a hint, a question, a second chance. Look for a series where the older character steps back on purpose and lets the younger one finish, and where effort gets noticed as much as success. Mistakes should be part of the process, not a setback.

For 5-year-olds
Five-year-olds understand that skill is something people build, and they start to admire someone for what they can actually do. They also begin to teach: explaining a rule to a younger child, showing a friend a trick. Stories where the child then passes something on are especially useful now.
