Walking
Walking is one of the first big things a young child masters, and it shapes almost everything else: exploring a room, keeping up on a family outing, choosing where to go next. A calm, well-made episode about walking gives children the language for it, from the wobble of first steps to the long walk home. Watching movement unfold at a slow, steady pace also invites children to get up and try it themselves.
For 2-year-olds
At two, walking is still fresh work. Toddlers are busy with balance, stairs, curbs and the pull of a hand that steadies them. Look for episodes with slow camera work and simple, repeated action, where a character walks somewhere short and arrives, so the whole trip fits inside a toddler's attention. Familiar words like 'up', 'down' and 'stop' spoken clearly help a two-year-old connect what they see with what their own body is doing.

For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds walk to get somewhere. They notice what happens along the way, a puddle, a beetle, a neighbour's gate, and they start narrating it. Episodes that follow a small journey from front door to destination suit this age, especially when the walk itself carries the story rather than a problem needing solving. Watch for characters who stop to look at things, since that mirrors how a three-year-old actually moves through the world and gives them words for what they notice.

For 4-year-olds
By four, children can manage a longer walk and hold a plan in their head while doing it. Walking becomes social: who goes first, who waits, what to do when someone is tired. Episodes that show a walk with a purpose, a route to follow or a small setback along the way, give a four-year-old something to think about without overwhelming them. Look for stories where characters keep going, negotiate turns and figure out the way together.

For 5-year-olds
Five-year-olds understand walking as a way of knowing a place. They can follow a route, remember landmarks and grasp that a path leads somewhere real. Episodes that connect walking to the wider world suit this age, whether that means learning a trail, noticing what the season has changed, or hearing why a place matters to the people who live there. Look for stories that reward attention along the way, so the walk builds knowledge rather than just filling time between scenes.
