Feeling

Anxiety

Anxiety in early childhood rarely arrives as words. It shows up as clinging at the door, a wobble before something new, or a sudden freeze when a noise is too big. A calm, well-made series can put language and shape around that feeling, letting a child watch someone else feel nervous, get through it, and come out the other side.

For 2-year-olds

At two, worry lives mostly in the body: reaching for you when a room changes, going quiet when everything is suddenly loud. There is no plan yet, only the feeling and the need for someone close. Look for a steady rhythm and familiar faces returning every time, where a small upset is noticed quickly and settled by an adult who stays nearby. Tension should pass in moments rather than build.

Along the way small hurdles come up, like disliking having his feet touched and the shark shoes being out of stock, and each is talked through calmly. The episode ends with Eddie deciding on the dinosaur shoes and feeling ready to go.

For 3-year-olds

Three-year-olds begin putting names to feelings, and fears turn specific: the dark, the bath drain, a person they do not know. Naming helps far more than reasoning at this stage. Look for stories where a character says out loud that they feel scared and an adult takes that seriously instead of brushing it aside. A comfort that repeats, a song, a hug, a phrase to say, gives your child something to borrow.
