Behaviour
Caring for animals
Caring for animals is one of the first ways children practise noticing someone else's needs. A pet that wants food, a lamb that needs warmth, a bird that must not be startled: these are small, concrete lessons in paying attention and acting kindly. A calm, clearly told series about animal care gives children the language and the routines to try it themselves, at the speed their thinking actually works.
For 2-year-olds
At two, caring starts with simple recognition: the animal is alive, it eats, it sleeps, it can be touched softly. Toddlers copy what they see, so the best stories at this age show one clear action at a time, filling a bowl, stroking a back, saying goodnight. Look for slow scenes, few characters and plenty of naming, so your child can point at the screen and say the animal's name out loud.

For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds begin to understand that an animal has feelings and wants of its own, not just the ones they project onto it. Stories work well here when a child character takes on one small job from beginning to end, feeding, brushing, finding a lost pet, and the animal responds. Watch for series that let the child do the caring rather than an adult, and that stay curious about how animals actually behave.
