The world is largely make-believe: talking animals throw a kitty adoption party in a storybook forest, and Clarabelle ends up with a weasel that behaves like a pet. Real ideas do sit underneath, an allergy that rules out a cat, adopting and caring for an animal, and forgiving a friend, and the party and picnic mirror social situations a child knows. This is a polished Disney production with clean 3D animation and a bright, well-mixed soundtrack, which is the strongest thing here for a watching adult. The story carries a small twist that Clarabelle's new 'kitty' Noodle is actually a weasel, giving a bit of story to follow, but the humor and dialogue stay pitched squarely at preschoolers. The saturated pink-and-green palette and constant upbeat energy are noticeable but rarely grating.
