Sharkdog, a half-shark half-dog, is asked to leave the house so Max's family can secretly set up a surprise, and while wandering he starts to feel he does not belong anywhere. He is turned away by the dogs at the park, then meets Barb the seafaring sailor, who joins him to search for where he came from, though all Sharkdog can recall is the sea. When noon arrives he heads home to find the family waiting with a party and a shark-shaped cake. They tell him that fins or feet, he is one of a kind and belongs right there with them.
