Intergenerational bonding
Intergenerational bonding is about the warmth between a child and the grown-ups a generation or two above them: grandparents, older neighbours, family friends. These relationships give young children a different kind of attention than parents or peers do, slower, patient, full of stories from another time. A calm, well-made series can show a child what that closeness looks like and give them the words for it.
For 2-year-olds
At two, a child understands relationships through repetition and touch: who picks them up, who is happy to see them, who reads the same book again. Grandparents may live far away or be seen rarely, so a familiar face on screen helps keep the connection alive between visits. Look for gentle scenes of an older character and a small child doing something ordinary together, with plenty of time to watch and no rush to a plot.

Three-year-olds start telling small stories about their own lives and love naming who belongs to whom. They notice that a grandparent has a different home, different smells, different rules, and they find that fascinating rather than confusing.
