Behaviour
Exploring
Exploring starts small: opening a box, following a path, asking what is behind the door. It is how children learn that the world holds more than what sits in front of them, and that finding out is something they can do themselves. A calm, well-made series can carry that further, offering new places and new questions at a pace a child can actually take in.
For 2-year-olds
At two, exploring is physical. A child reaches into a cupboard, turns something over, carries it across the room to have it named. Curiosity lives in the near world: the garden path, the kitchen floor, a puddle by the door. Look for series that stay in one familiar place, move slowly, and let a single small discovery fill a whole episode. Long, steady shots and plain naming of what is on screen give a two-year-old time to look before the picture changes.

For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds explore through questions. 'What is that?' and 'why?' arrive constantly, and short trips away from home, to a beach, a wood, a farm, count as real adventures. A child this age can follow a simple journey from start to finish and remember how it ended. Look for series where someone notices something, wonders about it out loud, and finds out, with a clear beginning and a settled ending. Real animals and real places land just as strongly as imagined ones.

For 4-year-olds
By four, exploring turns into guessing. A child forms a small theory, that something sinks because it is heavy, and wants to test it. Pretend and real sit side by side and feed the same curiosity. Room to make a mistake matters more at this age than the right answer arriving quickly.
