Sharing
Sharing is one of the first hard things a child learns: letting go of something you want, so someone else can have a turn. It takes years to grow, and it starts long before a child can actually do it. A calm, well-made story gives children a chance to watch sharing happen from a safe distance, see the wobble and the making-up, and pick up words for feelings they cannot yet name.
For 2-year-olds
At two, sharing mostly means noticing that other people want things too. Toddlers hold on tight, and that is exactly where they should be. Look for stories with a simple back-and-forth: one character offers, another takes, everyone stays friends. Repeated moments and short, clear sentences help more than any lesson, and seeing a character comforted after giving something up matters more than the giving itself.

For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds start taking turns, though usually with help and rarely for long. This is the age of the loud protest and the sudden change of heart. The most useful stories name what is happening out loud, so a child hears the words for wanting, waiting and offering. Look for gentle conflict that gets sorted out within the story, and for grown-ups who help without simply taking over.

For 4-year-olds
By four, children can share on purpose, and they notice when someone else does not. Fairness becomes a big deal, often stricter than any adult would apply. Stories that work at this age show a genuine dilemma: something wanted by two friends, with a solution the characters find themselves. For 5-year-olds
Five-year-olds can hold someone else's point of view in mind and give something up because a friend needs it more. They also start seeing that sharing is not always splitting things in half. Sharing ideas, plans and space counts here as much as sharing objects.
