The Nest

In a spring meadow, Little Nutbrown Hare and Little Field Mouse decide to build their own nest to play in. They gather twigs, leaves and grass and keep fixing it as it turns out too weak, too prickly and then too tight for them both. When it no longer suits them, they offer it to a squirrel, a fox and Big Nutbrown Hare before it finally becomes a home for a bird. They end the day playing with friends, deciding the whole meadow is their own great big nest.

The Scents of Spring

Little Nutbrown Hare wakes on the first morning of spring and notices a special new smell in the meadow. He sets out with Little Field Mouse to find its source, smelling hyacinths, bluebells and orange blossom, and exploring the woods and creek, but nothing is quite right. The next morning he realises the special smell is all the scents of springtime rolled into one, and the two hares end with their 'Guess how much I love you' exchange.

Blossoms

On the way home they realise the stream will carry them back the way the blossoms came, a quicker route. The story ends back where they began, with a tender exchange about how much they love each other.

Rainy Day Rainbow Painting

When rain clouds keep him from painting the blue sky, he watches the raindrops make puddles and decides to paint a gray-and-blue cloud instead. Field of Flowers

Picnic

The Salmon Leap

They finally realise the owlets stayed awake because no one said goodnight, and once tucked in the babies drift off. The friends rush to the waterfall and just catch the salmon leaping before the sun climbs too high.

Camping

Over several days the two invent games together, pretending to live in the forest, planting a seed and chasing a wild pig. Her mum comforts her with the idea that special people sometimes come for a while and then leave, and the seed they planted grows into a small tree.

Diving Deeper
