Asking questions

Children ask questions long before they can explain why. It starts with pointing at things and turns, over a few years, into wanting to know how the world holds together. Content that treats a question as something worth sitting with, rather than something to answer and move past, shows your child that wondering out loud is welcome.

For 2-year-olds

At two, a question is often a single word and a pointed finger. Naming things is how your child sorts out the world, and repetition is what makes an answer stick. Look for calm content where an object stays on screen long enough to be looked at, where a character says its name clearly, and where the same moment returns in the next episode. Pauses matter more than answers at this age.

For 3-year-olds

Three is when 'why' arrives, sometimes ten times in a row. Some of those questions are real curiosity, some are a way to keep the conversation going, and both are worth taking seriously. Look for stories where a character wonders out loud, and where an adult or a friend answers honestly instead of brushing it off. It helps when the answer stays short, concrete, and tied to something your child can see.
