Building
Building is one of the first ways a child changes the world on purpose: stack something up, watch it hold, watch it fall, try again. On screen it shows up as blocks and towers, dens and bridges, tools, tape and cardboard, and the patient business of fixing what collapsed. A calm, well-made story about building gives a child the whole arc, the idea, the wobble, the repair, at a pace slow enough to follow and copy on the living room floor.
For 2-year-olds
At two, building is mostly hands: stack, topple, stack again. The joy is in cause and effect, not the finished tower, and a knocked-down pile is part of the fun rather than a failure. Look for slow, close-up making, one action at a time, with plenty of repetition and few characters. A story that lingers on a single block going on top gives a toddler time to see how it was done.

For 3-year-olds
Three-year-olds start building toward something. The pile becomes a house, a road, a bed for a toy, and the naming matters as much as the structure. Collapses now sting, so it helps when a story shows frustration passing and the builder starting over. Look for simple problems with one obstacle, clear talk about what is being made and why, and adults or friends nearby who offer a hand without taking over.

For 4-year-olds
Four is the age of the plan. A child pictures the thing first, hunts for the right materials, and notices when the base is too narrow to hold the top. Building also turns social: sharing pieces, agreeing on whose idea gets built.
